AN: This is a story I was reciting to my little cousins, nephews and nieces and I decided to try and type it out. It's kind of cheesy being as it's meant to be a fairytale but there will be some nice action and adventure going on with it. The actual story is only slightly explained in the prologue and it's a bit rough right now since I haven't had a chance to really sit down and work on it but I'll be sure to work on it soon.
By the way, if you enjoy my stuff, SUBSCRIBE to my wordpress. I haven't been able to make it more "personal" since I'm still using templates and all but most of my writings get posted there first. I'll eventually build it up or make my own site for my novels and such but until then; check out the link! www.maeeverglow.wordpress.com!
All right, here we go! No flames, constructive criticism is welcome! ENJOY!
PrologueThis story starts as any other, at the very beginning.
The Kingdom of Orion was famous for its lush gardens and forests spanning the farthest reaches of the lands, a castle chiseled into the mountainside of the Plum Mountains. Its shadow cast over its kingdom, the subjects all praising their noble King and Queen as they ruled with a fair hand. It was a dream come true to be born within Orion; the land was full of beauty and the people were kind and generous. Anyone who was born there was welcomed with open arms by everyone; so when it was announced that the Queen was expecting a child, the rulers’ subjects all danced and praised the birth of the baby.
Princess Emily came into the world showered with love and affection from all around her, the King and Queen more proud of their child than anything else they had ever created. And for many years, the girl lived happily in her Kingdom without any thoughts of the things that lurked outside the walls of Orion.
Everything Emily knew, however, was challenged on her seventh birthday…
The entire Kingdom gathered in the streets as the King and Queen were led through the streets by their guards, Princess Emily being paraded as she waved to those she held so dear to her heart. The people of Orion all cheered on the joyous day, no one even beginning to fathom what darkness strolled through their lands and entered their homes.
The crowds fell silent as the parade came to a halt, a dark figure standing in the middle of the road while everyone looked on in shock. The man was covered from head to toe in blackened garbs, his face shadowed by his hood save for his smirk on his lips. Emily’s clear blue orbs rested on the figure and she began to shiver in her seat of the carriage, a chill flowing down her spine at the man’s presence.
“What is it you have come for, Stranger?” The King questioned as the guards stepped forward, all of which ready to protect their beloved royalty at all costs. The shadowy figure seemed to cackle as the guards closed in, the man raising his hand as dark magic spilled out towards its prey.
“I’ve come for what’s destined to be mine!” His voice boomed loudly over the screams of the people, the streets beginning to empty as everyone evacuated the battlefield. The bodies of soldiers barreled through the air as the royal family was dragged away in fear. Emily’s eyes were wide in fear as her guards lifted her up and dashed off towards the safety of the castle walls. The dark figure turned his head towards the departing princess and lifted his hand once more, his magic ripping through the air and grazing the soldier holding tightly to his princess. “She is mine! Give her to me!”
“He is after the Princess! Get her to safety now!” The soldiers all cried out as another advance was made the dark being, making it possible for the guards to hide all members of the royal family as the fight in the streets continued.
It was soon nightfall and the battle had turned into a chase through the woods, the dark figure escaping as magic wielders and knights all came forth to aid in the protection of Princess Emily. The young girl was locked away in the most protected confines of the castle, left in the care of the finest knight in the kingdom and the king’s best friend, Lawrence. The man stood guard at the only entrance to the room, allowing his son Adam to come into the room and help keep the princess calm.
Emily and Adam had known each other since the princess’s birth and they had forever been the best of friends. He was strong, brave and cared deeply for the safety of Emily; only Adam knew the best way to keep the princess smiling throughout the hardship of the attack, which is why his fate was sealed when the royal family consorted with the magician Murdock. With him, they found out what awaited their daughter in the future; and they also found the way to steer away from such a fate.
The young princess wept and rushed into her parents arms as they scurried into the room later that evening, the guards all surrounding the family as they prepared for what was to come.
“Father! Mother!” Emily cried at the sight of them, stumbling over and throwing her small arms around them. The King and Queen both smiled, holding back their tears as they comforted their child. The guards surrounded them and looked on in despair. They all understood the steps that needed to be taken in order to ensure the Princess’s safety from now on; it was not something of a favorable nature. “I was so scared! That bad man just began using magic on our guards! What a horrible man he was!”
“Yes, he is a horrible man,” the King whispered as he knelt down to his daughter’s level, a sad look befallen him as he tried his best not to shed tears. “My Emily, we have something to discuss. You’re Mother and I want nothing more than your safety. This threat that had stood before us today only proves that you are not safe here. Our warriors and protectors will not be able to save you from this threat alone; and so, we have sought out the wisdom of the magician, Murdock. He has spoken of this man clad in black, a Lord Jacque, who has told of a future where you are to be his son’s bride. And with you at his side, Lord Jacque and his son will be able to send darkness over our lands. We cannot allow such things to happen; and so, you will be escorted to a safe hold until this Lord Jacque can be brought to justice. There, you will have the most loyal and strongest protection we can offer you. Adam will accompany you on this mission of safety.”
“My King, you want my son to accompany her? He is merely just a boy,” Lawrence began to argue but the King’s eyes silenced him. “Very well, Adam will go with you, Princess Emily.”
“You mean, I am going to be sent away?” Emily whimpered in the wake of her family and protectors. There was a solemn silence surrounding the princess, her biggest fears finally coming true. She was to lose everything in order to be protected from the cruelty that did exist in her world. “I don’t want to leave! I want to remain here with you! Please don’t make me go, Father!”
Alas, all her pleas for reconsideration fell to the wayside, and upon saying her farewells to her family, a small group of guards made their way through the castle to the west wing where Murdock awaited the presence of the child. Emily tried her best to keep up with her guards, though her weakened state caused her to linger behind. She did not want to leave her family; she loved them dearly and was afraid of what the outside world had encased in its shadows.
“Everything will be all right, Emily,” Adam’s whisper broke the girl from her lonely thoughts, the teen standing beside the girl and holding her hand tightly in his own. He knew not of what his fate was but he didn’t care. He was honored to be given such a role; and he was ready to protect the girl with his life. “I promise you that everything will be all right.”
Emily felt reassured that all would be all right as she remained at Adam’s side, the two of them being ushered into the west wing and before the great Murdock. And from there, the two of them began their journey together to the abandoned castle at the highest point in Orion, unknowing of what truly would become of them.
